Etrog Container

During the Succot holiday, special huts are constructed and decorated with fruits and vegetables, signifying thanksgiving for a bountiful harvest. During the morning prayer service, psalms of thanksgiving are recited with an etrog, citron, and lulav, a bundle of palm leaves, myrtle twigs, and willow branches. To protect the fragile etrog from injury when not in use, special containers have been developed, often shaped in the form of the fruit. This example is made of silver with gilt interior, and bears an Austro-Hungarian mark on the inside of the stem, both sides.
