Gold Pocket Watch on Chain

Unknown Maker

This watch was given to Adele (nee Ptak) Miller's mother from her father as a wedding present. She remembers her mother wearing it on special occasions. When her mother passed away Adele took it and wore it on special occasions just like her mother.

Adele Ptak was born in Augustow, Poland; her brother changed the family name from Ptak to Miller when they moved to the U.S. Adele’s family fled from Poland to Lithuania during World War II. Afterwards, Adele (aged about 12) and her sister were sent with the “kindertransport” from Poland to Canada and to their final destination, Chicago. Her brother was already in America, and Adele’s parents later reunited with their children in Chicago.

The engraved design on the case has scrolled foliage and five-pointed stars filled in with black enamel. At the center of the lid is a reserve with engraved monogram.
