Born in Chicago in 1941, Bennett went on to attend Harvard University, where he studied English literature and opera. After graduating in 1962 he continued his musical training in Austria and Italy. He performed as a lyric baritone in concerts and operas from the mid-1960s to early 1970s, before turning his attention to painting in 1973. Since that time, this self-taught artist’s works have been presented in numerous solo exhibitions and are included in many American and European museums. The artist currently lives in Munich and Spain.
One of Bennett’s primary artistic preoccupations has been the depiction of biblical figures and scenes in a way that, to quote the artist, "delights the eye.” This series of 13 silkscreens feature powerful and sometimes enigmatic images drawn from the Five Books of Moses and the Prophets. The Spertus Institute collection contains a variety of other prints by the artist, along with illustrated books, exhibit catalogs, and signed posters.
