The Mizrah is a classic ritual object that typically expresses a longing for the Promised Land. The Mizrah, literally meaning east, is placed on the eastern wall of a home or other private area where prayer takes place. European Jewish prayer is directed east, the orientation of Jerusalem from Europe. The Mizrah, therefore, serves as a reminder on a daily basis, of Jerusalem and the constant hope for a return to Zion.
