Yocheved Bat-Miriam

Yocheved Bat-Miriam (1901-1980) was a Russian-Israeli poet. Written in 1943, her book Shirim La-Ghetto is a cycle of symbolist poems that she wrote immediately after the Holocaust, poems in which she repeatedly evoked the period and the ways of coping with its horrors and with its memory. In 1948, her son died in the Israeli War of Independence and after that she never wrote a poem again.
